Despite popular belief - this is just simply not the truth. Colds and flus are common this time of year and they are just that - common! It is so important to understand "why" and know "what" to do to help build your immune system and boost your very own internal resistance.
For starters, the tremendous amount of stress this time of year is worth talking about. Pressure is in the air for many: students and teachers are in the thick of things; this is commonly fiscal year end which brings up more (more meetings, more hustle to meet targets, more discussion of strategy for next year, more being asked of you...you get the idea); personal planners become more full, holiday plans start brewing, days get shorter and darker quicker; and for others mental/emotional stress creeps up and is at an all time high this time of year. Science shows just how detrimental mental/emotional stress is to the immune system.
As we come down from Halloween, the treats are everywhere and so small in size so many of us keep going back for just "one more" or have a little sweet treat daily because it is available. Sugar consumption is high and is one of the biggest players in weakening the immune system.
We are busy - especially this time of year - and what is the first thing we let go of the busier we get? Ourselves! Our workouts, our self-care, our walks, our yoga classes, etc. We start moving less. Less movement is directly linked with stagnation of the lymphatic system, and ultimately the immune system.
So these are just a few of the stressors at play. What we need to do is remind ourselves just how strong and resilient we are, and take the necessary baby steps to keep our self-care priority. Want to beat the feeling of depletion? Try choosing foods that fuel you. Drink more water. Add some vitamins/supplements into your world (vit D3, probiotics, fishoils, on a general level are a few of the key players).
What does chiropractic care have to do with immune function? Since the nervous system controls all functions of the body – including the immune system - chiropractic adjustments can have a positive effect on the immune system! Stop in for an adjustment - we want to see you thrive this time of year (and beyond)!
